Welcome
Hello, welcome to my digital portfolio for Apparel and Textile Production II Honors! My name is Ashley Neall and I am currently a senior at Apex High School. In this digital space, I invite you to get to know me through my artistic style demonstrated in my apparel and textile production projects.
I am excited to continue my interest in apparel within Mrs. Lord's classroom, creating intricate projects and enhancing my sewing skills. I look forward to developing a more efficient process for planning and materializing pieces, using this creative process to create gowns.
Although my first apparel class at Apex High was conducted online, I enjoyed creating medical masks with colorful designs – and constructing a Cinderella ballgown in my free time with the skills I learned from Mrs. Lord.
As I progress through my second apparel class, I anticipate greater freedom of my projects; I hope to have the opportunity to create beautiful gowns in class – perhaps I'll even sew my own prom dress!
After my completion in Apparel II Honors, I hope to look back on my journey through apparel and textile production – proud of my improvement, observing the colorful, appealing garments I made while carrying my drafting and organizational skills with me into adulthood.

Three Words To Describe Me
Creative, Conscientious, and Curious – three words that encompass my personality. But, grouping these adjectives seems like a paradox; how exactly could I be conscientious, curious, and creative at the same time? I ask myself, "how can I have the mentality to create an abstract painting while remaining careful and precise with my techniques – still exemplifying my ability to take risks in my process?" My answer is versatility. With each project I am given in class, I immediately let my curiosity run wild as I wonder how I can go above and beyond with the assignment. I memorize the rubric like a script and ask my teacher striking questions so that I present my best work while squeezing in artistic alterations that demonstrate my creativity. To allow my creative and curious quirks to work in harmony, I remain conscientious throughout the process of completing projects; never forgetting to ask questions that explain the boundaries of an assignment and the particular reason behind a certain procedure. When I take all of these three traits seriously and apply them simultaneously in tasks given inside and outside of the classroom, I learn more about subjects as I enhance my artistic capabilities and scientific thinking.
The Artist I'm Most Inspired By
Thomas Kinkade inspires me as an artist. He was known for creating colorful, intricate, whimsical paintings – often encompassing nature and commissioning for Disney. Many may also recognize his appealing, nostalgic 'winter-wonderland' paintings. His use of vibrant color and naturalistic depictions of nature – mixed with fantasy elements – is similar to what I strive to complete with my paintings, drawings, digital artwork, and apparel projects. As I further develop my craft in 3-dimensional mediums this semester, I hope to enhance the efficacy of conveying stark, colorful, and magical aesthetics in my apparel projects. |

My Style
My style consists of a clear fascination with vibrant colors, expressed through shirts, dresses, skirts, and pants that I collect frequently with blues, purples, and pinks. Although I seem to have more items in my wardrobe with these neon colors, I enjoy every color! Actually, iridescent items may be the most appealing to me! I don't have a definite outfit style or type of item I lean towards, I rather just experiment; I love to find new pieces with unusually beautiful patterns, frills, and colors. |
