Practicing With Oil PaintsFor the past couple of days I have had the opportunity to have a hands-on introduction to the medium of oil paints, by getting to experiment with such a medium as I try to recreate two fruits of my choice in a realistic way, by using two different methods of painting with oil paints. The first of my two practice oil paintings is of a pumpkin, of which I found the photo of online, & used a brush to recreate such on a piece of canvas paper. I found that it is quite easy for colors to blend together, which can be very beneficial when it comes to creating realistic pieces, as you have a greater opportunity to recreate all of the value & shadows in your piece in a realistic way, correlating to the displacement of certain colors, as you can easily create a desired color that could be similar to another color, simply by effortlessly moving your brush into certain colors. My second practice oil painting is of two blueberries, of which I based off a photo that was available for me to use in Mrs. Rossi's room. I found that when painting with a palette knife when using the medium of oil paints, the process is much more efficient & enjoyable when you pretend as if you are painting in the same manner in which you would frost a cake. I noticed that if you do not use the bottom, flat side of the palette knife, you won't end up applying much paint to your desired surface, so I made sure to use the bottom of the palette knife as I continued to paint my piece.
